DVMR Power-Off procedure:

Before Powering-Off press 'Menu' button, when the login 'enter Password' screen is displayed it is safe to Switch Power Off. If power is switched off or cut when DVMR is in any other mode data may be corrupted / lost.

HARD DISK DRIVE

Use recommended HDD: Disregard any information about HDD Brand/Make mentioned in the User Manual supplied with DVMR Use Hard Disk Drive - Make - Type - Size recommended on product Web Page these have been tested for maximum reliability - other types may be unreliable.

Data Corruption Daylight Saving - Time / Date changes - Power sags /cuts.

Data corruption may occur: If DVMR is not powered off correctly. If mains power sags or is interrupted. If Date or Time are changed.

If data has been corrupted (Common symptoms are: cannot Record / Replay / Search / HDD not detected / etc) The HDD should be cleared/formatted and the DVMR reset to Factory Defaults, this procedure is detailed in DVMR User Manual.

Use an Uninterruptible Power Supply.

This will reduce or eliminate the likelihood of problems caused by Mains Power 'failure' or 'sags' that can result in loss of Data not written to Disk and/or corrupt other Data.

PC Based Systems: Use Automatic Shut-Down software linked to the UPS to ensure an orderly Shut-Down before the Battery discharges, this will minimise the likelihood of OS problems, HDD damage and loss of Data.

Stand-Alone Systems: MAXIMISE RELIABILITY use a UPS Ensure DVR is 'Idle' before the Battery discharges.

Cooling.

PC Based Systems: Excess temperature will usually affect reliability and the long-term durability of hardware, consider this aspect and if necessary "fit additional fan or fans" in PC Case to improve cooling.

Stand-Alone Systems: Do not enclose DVR in unventilated spaces such as cabinets, etc., ensure DVR vents are unobstructed and periodically clean vents and fans. Do not bundle up Power Supply with cabling etc., position it such that air is free to flow around it.

Unstable - Noisy images.

Digital Video Recording Systems are generally less tolerant of incorrect or noisy video signal levels, degradation can occur due to poor poor cabling, splitting of the signal from Camera to other devices, Ground Loops, Induced Voltages, Cross-Talk, etc.

Many of these problems can be resolved with following: Video-Choke, Vid-Dist/2, AV-Amp, Video-Choke+, Vid-Dist/4, Vid-Amp/4, BalUn-VST/NI & Twist-Amp.

Visit this page for a Link to sources of information about Ground Loops, Video Hum, Hum Bars, Cross-Talk, Noise, etc.
